Handsome Regency mahogany bookcase cabinet in the manner of Thomas King. In his pattern book "The Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified" King helped create the late Regency and William IV style; often combining classical motifs with restraint creating a subtle dignity which is characteristic of this period. For similar examples see "The Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design" page 89. The molded cornice centers a scrolled stepped pediment platform. The pair of grill doors on the top and bottom section are flanked by flat pilasters. Note the waist with an inset marble shelf. All resting on a plinth base. English, C. 1835
